AH Control Ltd recently completed industrial gas pipework soundness testing on an installation using both natural gas and biogas. The work checked the pipework for leakage and verified that the emergency shut-off valves operated correctly on both fuel supplies.

Project at a glance

Fuels: natural gas and biogas. Scope: pipework volume calculations, soundness testing and emergency shut-off valve checks. Test basis: IGE/UP/1. Outcome: both fuel systems passed the tests carried out and the installation was returned to service.

The purpose of the work

The customer required testing to check the integrity of the gas pipework and the operation of the emergency isolation arrangements on both fuels. Pipework soundness and effective emergency shut-off are distinct aspects of an industrial gas installation, so the scope addressed both.

Pipework calculations and soundness testing

Before undertaking the associated tests, we completed the gas pipework volume calculations. These calculations and the testing were carried out in accordance with IGE/UP/1.

The scope covered both the natural gas and biogas systems. The photographs show the industrial pipework, associated valves and equipment used during the site work.

Verifying the emergency shut-off valves

The emergency shut-off valves were checked on both fuel supplies to verify their operation. These checks complemented the pipework soundness testing, providing evidence of the performance of the tested isolation arrangements at the time of the visit.

Both fuel systems passed

The natural gas and biogas systems both passed the tests carried out. Following successful completion, the installation was returned to service.

The result gave the customer confidence in the integrity of the tested pipework and the correct operation of the emergency shut-off valves on both fuels.
